Don’t Delay the Happy

“Don’t delay the happy”.  It’s a simple but powerful phrase.

I love the Showtime series “The Big C” with Laura Linney.

Don’t be put off by the title or theme.  There are brilliant moments in what could be a downer of a show.

As she reconnects with friends from her past Laura Linney’s character ( who now has cancer) is reminded she once helped her friend by saying this phrase.

It was an aha moment for her friend then and for Laura Linney’s character now.

In my opinion, this is what it means.

It’s not about acting with reckless abandon.

It’s about choosing opportunities for happiness.  It’s about taking yourself off the back burner and taking chances to achieve your dreams.

We all know what we’d like to do and be.

We start off knowing as kids and then find reasons to talk ourselves out of it as we grow older.

Hey, we’re in mid-life now.  What are you waiting for?  I’m giving you my permission.

Don’t Delay the Happy! Go for it!
