Traffic Turned Me into a Disco Girl

by Diane Horn on February 16, 2012

It was one of those mornings. I had every intention of going to my pilates class. I left plenty of time to get there and put my mat in my favorite spot ( left side 2nd row). I got in the car, turned the radio to NPR and off I went. Well, that lasted until I left my neighborhood and entered the main road.

As the minutes ticked by and I was still just inching forward it became clear to me that I was not going to get there on time.

I had a couple of choices.

One was to plod along and get to class late ( which I really don’t like to do and besides, it’s not fair to everyone else to stop and move their mats around) and the second was to surrender to my situation.

No, that didn’t mean I was going to sit there brooding, I was going to get my exercise in the car.

So off went NPR ( which had lapsed into fundraising) and on went Sirius-XM radio to the Disco Station. I turned the volume up and to my pleasant surprise Donna Summers’ “Bad Girl” came on. It’s one of my all time favorites.

My inner disco girl just kind of came out. I couldn’t help it. Sometimes I can’t remember what I did yesterday but those lyrics came back to me in a flash.

“Toot Toot, Beep Beep”. It’s been a while since I’ve channeled my disco diva and had such a good time . I’m still listening to Donna Summers now while I’m typing this.

And it’ won’t be my Last Dance.
